The big day for Spike-a-Roo was yesterday. The day came and went in a blur for me, dropping of Spike at the vet in the EARLY morning. Ok, so 8:45 isn't too bad. After that I did some errands. I called the vet's office in the afternoon to check up on Spike, and get a pick up time. They said he was doing good and said the earliest I could come get him was 4pm.
So I went to the vet at 4. After I talked to the vet, and got his meds and such, they brought him out. He was still very droopy from the anesthesia, but I was still talking to the vet as the vet tech brought him out, and as soon as he heard my voice he started wagging his tail. The vet tech said the first thing he did after waking up was try to lick his incision....bad boy. So, he was given the wonderful gift of an e-collar.
He doesn't like it much. ;) I really didn't have him wear it except when we went to dinner at someones house, and he had to be in a separate room alone for awhile. He had a little trouble holding his bladder a couple times yesterday as he was still all drugged up. Poor baby, it was really hard for me to see my usually bouncy bumbling baby boy not feeling well at all. There were some little kids at dinner last night though (I'm talking 2 year olds) and even though he wasn't feeling well, he was still up for giving the kids a little love. ;) Atta Boy!
He's on some pain meds for the next two days, but today he woke up with a considerably brighter outlook on life. :D I went up to the lake today with some family, but Spike went to work with my dad and laid in his quiet office. He seemed almost like his full self today, so I'm sure he'll be feeling almost all better by tomorrow. He's still gotta take it easy though. ;)
We've been pretty busy this last week. Behold....our new project.
This is Ty.
Ty is a four and a half month old, barely weaned, colt. My dad's girlfriend has always wanted a black and white paint horse, so, here is he is. :D His show name will be "Black Ty Affair", I came up with the name. Haha. Anyway, we've been quite busy bees working with him in between all of our other stuff. He hadn't really been worked with at all before we bought him, but he's leading nicely, and getting used to being handled. Just for any of you non-horse people out there, horses typically aren't "ridable" until they're around two to three years old. So by the time Ty is being ridden consistently, I'll be off in college somewhere. ;)
So, I've been working with the colt, mourning Spike's *ahem* loss, going to the movies with friends, and attempting to keep the rest of my sanity.
Tomorrow, Emily's father is having a birthday party. Spike, will of course be attending with my family and I. Unfortunately, due to his infliction, he'll have to be separated from the other dogs.
As you can probably guess, there is no puppy news. GDB, we're waiting on the edge of our seats, I just hope I don't wind up on the floor with gum on my pants.
A week from now, we'll be very excited for the next day to come, because hopefully we'll be receiving the mysterious un-known puppies. :D We're sure getting good at this waiting thing. Man.

wow, I was just talking to Natalie how curious and eager I was to hear puppy news from you guys!! But still nothing??? I admire your patience; I have none. :)
P.S. Spike is such a trooper!!! Poor little man.
Aw, poor Spike. :( I hope he feels better soon!
A week from right now, we'll be at Fun Day! Yay!! :)
A week is all we have left. Can you believe that? And we still know nothing. *sigh* Maybe we should brace ourselves for a 'mystery' puppy, never finding out the letter?
Haha GDB and their last-minute news....let's just say I found out 3, 5, and 9 days before I recieved my puppies, that they were coming. Surprise!
You'll survive :D
Yep, I like the idea of not sending Spike in til he turns black....just make sure he never plays in dirt ;)
And hahaha at Jo's comment- it's true we were just stalkerishly discussing your new puppy! Fingers crossed for some news SOON!! And get better soon Spikeypoo! (hahaha I've decided that's what I'm calling him from now on)
Poor Spike. But you are right, better to do this now and not have the down time during training.
Good luck with your new puppy - you are becoming a veteran raiser.
Have fun at "fun day".
